Why Michael Jordan was banned from $1m prestigious golf course

Over the years, NBA legend Michael Jordan has made his love for golf public on various occasions.

Be it playing golf with his former friend Charles Barkley or simply going solo, the 6x NBA Champion has spent his fair share of time on golf courses.

Being the high-profile athlete that MJ is, it’s no surprise that Jordan has memberships to several prestigious golf courses.

Among them was a $1 million membership at the iconic La Gorce Country Club. However, Jordan’s membership was revoked because of a 2012 incident.

Wearing cargo pants cost Michael Jordan his $1m La Gorce Country Club membership

Golf is widely considered a gentleman’s game, and it comes with the expectation of players dressing to uphold that reputation.

Some courses have stricter dress codes, including the La Gorce Country Club. However, the Chicago Bulls legend wasn’t aware of that rule.

After all, Jordan was wearing cargo pants, which was against the dress code and ultimately cost Mike his $1m membership at the club.

“Michael Jordan did wear cargo pants. He had been there many times before and had worn cargo pants previously, and had never been made aware that he was violating any dress code,” a representative told LA Times.

Michael Jordan didn’t get angry to getting banned from La Gorce Country Club

While the 6x NBA champ hasn’t been allowed to return to the prestigious course, Jordan couldn’t care less about the ban.

“This time, he was made aware of the violation on the 12th hole, and at that point, he did refuse to interrupt his game and return to the clubhouse and change.

“We were not aware that he is not allowed to return to La Gorce. I guess it’s their loss – as MJ is a great golfer and a great guest,” the representative added.

More than a decade has passed since the incident, and Jordan has barely allowed it to stop him from playing golf at other iconic courses.
