Who Jannik Sinner picked in his all-time dream Italian football 5-a-side team

Jannik Sinner is one of two players currently dominating the men’s tennis field, in a show of dominance that seems unlikely to cease anytime soon.

Alongside Carlos Alcaraz, these two have won all of the last eight Grand Slam titles, and seem poised to share the sport’s elite accolades again in 2026.

Nobody comes close to them, yet their appeal goes way beyond just tennis.

In fact, Sinner in particular remains a keen supporter of numerous sports, with the Italian actually an ambassador for the F1.

However, in the summer of 2025, it was actually football on his mind.

Jannik Sinner names his dream Italy all-time 5-a-side team

Speaking at Wimbledon, he was asked to put together his dream all-time Italian 5-a-side team.

Given the wealth of talent that his country has boasted over the years on the football pitch, he was not short of options.

Sinner took little time to begin naming legendary figures, starting with his two defenders: “I would pick Buffon, Maldini. Maldini because it’s Maldini.”

He then swiftly listed his attacking trio, adding: “Gattuso, Totti, Del Piero.”

Asked if he would be able to play within this team, Sinner replied, with a smile: “I would warm up the bench for them.”

Italy’s historical performances at the FIFA World Cup

Italy remain one of the most successful nations in FIFA World Cup history, with only two countries boasting more titles than them.

Brazil stand out in front with five triumphs, with Germany just behind them with four.

This paves the way for Italy, whose most recent success at a World Cup came in 2006.

That brought to an end a 24-year barren streak, with their other titles coming in 1982, 1948 and 1938.
