Andy Murray is one of tennis’ most affable modern-day heroes, and yet is now arguably better known for his golfing endeavours.
After all, since the Scotsman retired in 2024, that has been the sole sport we have really seen him play.
His love for golf is one he is keen to profess whenever given the platform, and has led him to even compete in events as he continues to improve his game.
However, over the last 12 months, he struck up something of a rivalry with Carlos Alcaraz on the course which has brought huge joy to fans.
What Andy Murray said about Carlos Alcaraz’s golf game
Seeing one of tennis’ most exciting and elite players publicly battle with a recently retired legend has been hilarious, made even funnier due to the fact that their arguments come over golf.
However, when asked late last year who was the better of the two, Murray did not hold back in his assessment.

He offered a typically blunt response, simply noting: “I think me by quite a distance.”
The 39-year-old did account for Alcaraz’s youth though, adding: “To be fair, I think he’s not been playing that long and he’s got more important things to worry about just now.
“He’s played unbelievable tennis. A great year on the tour, winning a couple of slams again and number one in the world, but he’s got a bit of work to do on the golf course.”
Carlos Alcaraz is balancing tennis greatness with golf
What Alcaraz has already achieved at such a young age is historic. And, scarily enough, he’s only just getting started.
In Australia later this month, he has the opportunity to win the only Grand Slam title missing from his collection. Were he to manage that, he’d be the youngest player in history to accomplish that feat.

It’s so impressive how he manages to balance greatness on the tennis court with having a life outside it, but perhaps that is exactly what makes him so successful.
Following his two French Open triumphs, Alcaraz has been on two very high-profile trips to Ibiza to celebrate. Whenever he gets the chance during or in between tournaments, he slips in a game of golf.
He’s making history in his own way, willing to take risks and do what those who came before him perhaps did not. Alcaraz has no reason to fix what is not broken with regard to his work-life balance.
